Prayer request

Hey guys. Those of you who a) were at CC last Friday or b) read my blog, have heard about my sister, Allison. She's in an eating disorder treatment center in Arizona. Well, I got an email from my mother this morning about a new problem. Seems Allison had some sort of reaction to some medication she was put on. On Monday she passed out 6 times. She fell into and broke a table with her head! Hit her head a few other times she fell as well. They took her to hospital for a CT scan, which, thankfully, was clear. And for the mdeically-types: her EKG is normal and vitals are good. I don't know what that means, but words like "normal" and "good" are comforting. Apparently, it's a drug that you just can't stop so they have to gradually take her down.

She's not able to participate in any programs and they have moved her to a bed chesterfield next to the nurses' station. She's distressed that she can't go to program - it's boring not doing anything and she wants to be in program. They did let her go to the dining room yesterday - in a wheelchair. She didn't like that at all!

So, if you could pray that would be great.

Update: Allison seems to be much better... in the "she's not passing out any more" way.

I would like to ask for continued prayers this week especially. This is the dread "family week" - my parents have journeyed out to Arizona and will be part of various sessions. I was invited (and wanted to go) but couldn't get time off work.

Everyone is REALLY nervous about this, mostly because they don't know what to expect. The family has never been included in previous treatments. So, my parents, who all ready feel responsible for Alli's condition, are afraid a lot of blame will be placed on them; Allison, who finds my parents stressful, is worried about what she's going to do with my family for a whole week.

Much thanks for prayers already offered up. Much thanks for prayers still to be given.

Another update: My family survived the family week, but it was a pretty intense week. My mother can hardly talk about it without breaking down. Basically her thearapists have decided that my sister's eating disorder is actually a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (which means there's something worse going on).

While this is something of a break through, it means more counselling after she's finished this program. The Remuda Ranch is looking for a place to send her... California's been mentioned as a possibility.

So, continued prayers are appreciated. Specifically if you could pray that a place is found (one that can handle eating disorders as well as trauma) and that the government pays for it.

will do as far as the praying goes. What drug did she react to? Hmmm...passing out/must be tapered off of...maybe some sort of benzodiazepine or such? So EKG means that her heart is working fine and vitals include things like blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate and so forth. Not that you actually asked, but I consider words like "I don't know what that means" as my oppertunity to jump in and be brainy.

Thanks, Roz. I was going to get her to explain it all to me, but we always have better things to talk about. Alli's had heart and blood pressure concerns before this.

**** My sister's returning home to Ontario this Saturday. She's foregoing the trauma treatment for now, as being away in the US this long has been quite hard. Cuz she's stubborn.
